Your travel advisory

West Cornwall.  Reputedly too far for civilised people.  Whisper it quietly but this isn't quite true.  The upside of such a legend is that the roads down here are much less crowded.

With the A30 now dual carriageway nearly all the way to Penzance, CAR journey times are now much shortened and we take barely longer to reach than the fleshpots of Padstow, Falmouth or Newquay.

The London - Mousehole early morning milk run has been done in less than four hours, but you should allow a little more than five.

There are two westbound stationary speed cameras on the A30, both on downhill single carriageway stretches, one near Marazanvose, the other near Roseworthy.  Are they operational?  We've never tested them.

TRAINS from London (First Great Western) and Bristol/The Midlands (Virgin)  cover the ground pretty quickly as far as Plymouth.

But do be aware that the line from Plymouth is slow and winding, although undeniably pretty. If time is of the essence, or if you would like to explore, do hire a car at Plymouth or Exeter.

If you prefer to FLY, Newquay takes flights from a few regional airports and we are but an hour’s drive in a hire car (details to the right).  Or Exeter is the next best option.

Choo Choo

Daytime services to Penzance are usually five hours from London Paddington or four hours from Bristol.

Do book ahead for much better prices and consider the comfort of first class if the prices permit. It's worth it.

But our recommmendation is to take the Night Riviera sleeper from London Paddington to Penzance.  Your reward is to join us for breakfast on us.  Bookings can be made here

@ 30,000 feet?

Although we don't like flying, Newquay Airport is less than one hour’s drive from us. The frequency of flights will of course be seasonal.

Flybe flies from Leeds, Edinburgh and three daily flights from Gatwick.

AirSouthWales flies from Bristol, Cork, Dublin, Gatwick, Manchester and Newcastle.

By Car from Up Country

Take the M5 or A303 to Exeter and the A30 for Okehampton. Continue on the A30 all the way to Penzance. Once at the Tesco roundabout follow the A30 and signs for Land's End.

After 3 more roundabouts on the Penzance bypass (A30), take the next left for Newlyn (B3315).  In Newlyn, turn right (effectively going straight on) following signs for Mousehole.  We are on the left on entering the village.

A public car park is also on the left, just before us, charging £9 a day.  If you're staying with us, please do use our residents' car park.
